The other day I saw someone talk about an eight-hour weekend reset.
Another mentioned a four-hour version.
Someone else does a 30-minute daily reset.
And I just thought…egads.
That used to be me.
My husband and I would go into weekend warrior mode with the bulk of our household chores, and then wonder where the time even went. It was no way to spend every weekend.
Then I began learning another way of doing things. An easier way, and dare I say, in some aspects, even more fun. I started shifting into a different rhythm over time. A simpler, more sustainable way that made sense in our real life.
I used to be able to do the all-or-nothing, go big or go home kind of home projects. Until we had three kiddos and, well…life.
In one of the mommy groups, and even in our kids’ kindergarten classes, there was talk of tidy time. Maybe you know the Clean Up song… I remember thinking…what if I did my own version of that after the kids had their toy pick-up time?
So instead of trying to fit my life into a big reset…I’ve been coming back to something much smaller.
In the evenings, I started taking 10 minutes to do a quick reset of the home. Nothing major. Just a simple prep for the next day.
I was surprised at what a difference it made.
Mornings felt smoother. A little less chaotic. A little more ready.
These days, in some ways it looks the same, in other ways it’s different. We homeschool now, and two of our three kiddos have graduated since those earlier days.
Now my evenings look like loading the dishwasher, prepping my coffee, resetting the dining table for homeschool, and a quick tidy of my desk for the next day.
Not a big cleaning session. Just moving simply in the rhythm that was set years ago.
The nights I don’t do it, I feel the difference. Ten minutes doesn’t finish everything, but it’s enough to make the next day feel lighter – and for that, I’m grateful.
