It was another night of trouble falling asleep. My mind raced with all the thoughts. I turned on a worship playlist, hoping to quiet the noise and drift into rest.

Above the melody came a whisper and a knowing—so random to the moment, yet so clear. It asked something that would require putting myself out there, where my voice had been silenced many times before. Through tears, I said, “Yes.”

Not long afterward came an act of obedience to attend a conference. Just me with God as my chaperone.

On the final night, near closing, a song began to play through the speakers. Within the first few notes, I knew exactly what it was. It was Oceans. The very song that had been playing the night of my whispered, trembling “yes.”

I was being called into something unknown. I didn’t know what I would write or how it would ever find its way into the world. I only knew He was asking me to trust Him—to remain faithful even when I felt completely in over my head.

I still don’t know the whole plan. Looking back, I don’t think I was supposed to. It was part of the growth.

God wasn’t asking for my certainty. He was asking for my yes.

On the flight home—headphones on, notebook open—somewhere between Texas and Seattle, with TobyMac’s Steal My Show pulsing in my ears, I released the outcome and let God do just that… steal my show.
